Thomas Richards

Tom has worked as a consultant and government heritage Regulator in Canada and Australia. He is currently a Research Fellow in the Programme for Australian Indigenous Archaeology, School of Geography and Environmental Science at Monash University, where he is involved in the study of Lapita settlements on the south coast of Papua New Guinea as well as on Australian Indigenous archaeology.

Tom has undertaken archaeological research in western Canada, Central America, Britain, Australia and Papua New Guinea on time periods ranging from pre-Last Glacial Maximum to post-European contact, covering a variety of subjects, including stone artefacts, landscape studies, rock art and cultural-historical syntheses. His role in Connecting Country is to co-ordinate the logistics of field and laboratory programmes, and to direct excavations at specific sites.
